Constructed in the 1700's, The Hole In The Wall gets its name from the 18th Century when the practice of 'press ganging' (forcing young men to join the Navy) was common. There are numerous stories of victims being hit over the head and waking up on board a ship. The hole in the wall refers to a spy hole that some pubs, such as this has, which customers could use to keep an eye out for advancing press gangs. Guests can browse the menu which includes a wide variety of freshly prepared classic pub dishes. There is also a separate lunch menu offering freshly made sandwiches and salads.
